Benefits & Dis-Advantages Of WordPress Platform

The Benefits Of WordPress As A Website Platform

A WordPress platform is highly recommended for a number or reasons, here are just a few:-
  • A WordPress-based website is SEO friendly and can easily be optimized for the search engines See some of the websites I have built and promoted to the top of Google.
  • The content can easily be added to or edited by the owner from a Control Panel. No separate software or technical knowledge is required. There are videos below showing how easy this ‘Content Management System’ is to use.
  • The functionality of the site can easily be extended by the use of what are termed ‘plugins’. If a new feature is needed on the website then there is probably a plugin that can provided it.
  • The layout and look of a WordPress website is determined by the ‘Theme’. There are many ready-made Themes available and most of them are free. You can very quickly set up a great-looking website in minutes just by installing a Theme.
  • WordPress is being constantly improved and updated with great new features.
  • WordPress offers much better comment management on the back end, and just added comment threading as an option.
  • WordPress only shows real trackbacks, not those annoying fake ones that show up on practically every Blogger post ever since they added their new blogroll widget.

The Disadvantages Of A WordPress Platform

  • If you use too many plugins, they can slow the site down
  • Not easy to format Tables and Graphic Images
  • Can’t be used for Database Driven websites with complex search boxes, e.g. like rightmove.co.uk
  • Because WordPress is being constantly improved and updated with great new features, it is necessary to upgrade on the website periodically. Not a great issue, but the plugins then become out of date and you have to update those also. Not a big issue, but some admin overhead you have to attend to.
